“Acting Requires Technicalities—It’s Not Just Real, It’s Crafted” – Celine Tengam Koyu on Finding Her Own Process

Mumbai: Celine Tengam Koyu, currently seen in Aspirants 3, approaches acting with a blend of instinct and technique, rejecting the idea that it’s purely about realism. “I believe acting is called acting because you are acting—it is not real. It requires many technicalities,” she says.

Her process begins with understanding the character deeply and then layering it with subtle details. “My approach is to understand the character and then put in small nuances that bring it to life,” she explains.

Unlike many actors who strictly follow established schools of thought, Celine’s style has evolved organically. “I am still discovering and learning, but I can say that I discover most of my style organically when performing,” she shares.

For her, preparation is not confined to a single method. “There is no black or white—whatever works for me, I do it. It’s a mix of formal methods and instinct,” she says, emphasizing flexibility in her craft.

Her training, however, has played a crucial role in shaping her discipline. “A lot of the exercises I was taught during training—speech and body exercises—have stayed with me. I always warm up with a good physical activity before going on set,” she reveals.

Celine also believes that collaboration is key to great performances. “I trust my directors, writers, and co-actors with all my faith. Only when we share ideas and understand each other do we create magic,” she says.

Adapting to different genres and characters comes naturally to her because of this open approach. Rather than sticking rigidly to one technique, she allows each role to guide her process.

With a mindset rooted in curiosity and collaboration, Celine continues to evolve as a performer—one role, one discovery at a time.
